A recent horror-themed Chevrolet spot directed by Sam Raimi asks a simple but profound question: “Wouldn’t it be nice to have a warning before bad things happen?”
Raimi shows us how this might work in a horror film. A young woman enters an extremely haunted house. Apparitions suddenly appear, and disappear just as quickly. Mysterious human-shaped spots appear on the walls. Shadows move impossibly everywhere.
The woman seems mysteriously drawn to a white door. But just as she’s about to turn the knob, a voice cries out from a distance (as if from the audience), “What are you doing? Stop!” Another voice: “Ugh! There’s a monster in there!”
The character seems mystified as to the source of these voices. Ultimately, she decides to trust them and she backs away.
We learn that driving a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu or a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze can give warnings in much the same way. Like a concerned audience member, these vehicles feature safety technology like Forward Collision Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert that can help us avoid danger on the road.
Let’s say you are getting ready to hit the road and all the usual attractions just seem…boring. Try these offbeat West Virginia travel destinations instead!
# 1 – Lake Shawnee Amusement Park – Princeton, WV
Ever pine to wander around an abandoned and haunted amusement built upon an old Indian burial ground? If so, the Lake Shawnee Amusement Park is your kind of place! Several accidental deaths led to the demise of the park back in the late 1960s.
# 2 – Mothman Statue – Point Pleasant, WV
The story of the Mothman came to prominence when the film The Mothman Prophecies starring Richard Gere depicted certain events that occurred in Point Pleasant in 1966, when a number of people reported seeing a shadowy figure with moth wings. When a bridge connecting West Virginia with Ohio, a lot of people saw a connection. Today, a statue resembling the creature has been erected downtown.
# 3 – West Virginia State Penitentiary – Moundsville, WV
This prison was actually forcibly closed when the Supreme Court ruled that the cells were too small and represented “cruel and unusual punishment.” After being closed for a while, the prison has reopened as a museum of sorts. You can even stay the night one night a month for a “ghost hunt.”
